Jengkol dan petai adalah dua jenis biji-bijian yang mempunyai aroma sangat khas. Sepertinya saat ini sedang musim. Setiap di tempat hajatan pasti ada dua menu masakan ini. Sambal goreng kentang dengan petai, serta semur jengkol yang menggugah selera.
Awalnya saya tidak begitu suka mengkonsumsinya. Karena dari lahir memang tidak terbiasa dengan olahan kedua jenis biji-bijian tersebut. Hal ini disebabkan karena ibuku anti terhadap olahan yang mengandung atau beraroma jengkol dan petai. Kabarnya meskipun keluarga ibuku menjadikan masakan jengkol dan petai sebagai menu favorit, akan tetapi dari lahir ibuku alergi dan sama sekali tidak bisa mengkonsumsinya.
Pernah suatu ketika Mbah Uti memasak semur daging dicampur dengan jengkol. Tetapi ibuku lebih memilih makan nasi dengan garam saja. Karena kasihan, dan ingin ibuku bisa menikmati masakan seperti saudaranya yang lain, Mbah melumatkan jengkol dengan nasi. Disuapinya ibuku yang saat itu baru berumur 5 tahun. Baru satu suapan, tiba-tiba ibuku muntah-muntah dan demam seketika. Dari semenjak itu Mbah tak berani lagi memaksa ibuku untuk makan jengkol dan petai.
Maka dari itu untuk kami anak-anaknya, baru kenal sensasi rasa dan aroma unik jengkol dan petai ketika sudah hidup terpisah dari ibuku. Memang awalnya asing dan pusing dengan aromanya. Namun lama-lama saya bisa paham mengapa jengkol dan petai menjadi makanan favorit terutama di sebagian besar keluarga Betawi asal suamiku. Menurutku sih rasanya biasa saja, tapi ada yang bikin nagih. Susah berhenti untuk hanya mencicipi. Hahhhhh dan nafas seketika pun semerbak meskipun sudah gosok gigi.😁🙏🏼
